Ehmke’s Home Town Celebrates Victory
SILVER CREEK, N. Y., Oct. 9 – This is the proudest little town in the world today for it is the native haunt of Pitcher Howard Ehmke, whose great work gave the Athletics the first game of the World Series. The entire population listened to the radio descriptions of the game, and with the announcement of the final strikeout, organized an impromptu parade.
The fans marched to the home of Mrs. Julia Ehmke, mother of Howard, who had listened to the details of the game with a number of friends. While the gathering was cheering in front of the house, a telegram from Ehmke to his mother was received.
The additional financial assistance of the community is critical to the success of the Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame.
We gratefully acknowledge these individuals and organizations for their generous support.
