Jamestown Man Has Top Team

Jim Foti Coaches At Wheeling, W. Va

Wheeling, W. Va.-Jim Foti, Catholic Central High School physical director and basketball coach, is receiving the congratulations of his fellow townsmen here.

Foti's basketballers recently completed their season with a bang, having captured Wheeling's always elusive triple crown. They won the championship in the Ohio Valley Conference race, the Greater Wheeling championship and the West Virginia Parochial School Tournament title.

The Central Catholic five almost turned the three-pronged trick a year ago, nailing down the conference and greater city diadems and bowing out of the Parochial tourney only in the championship test.

Foti is a graduate of John Carroll University at Cleveland, where he was an outstanding lineman on the football team. Prior to matriculating at John Carroll, he attended St. Bonaventure College at Allegany, N. Y., where he performed in the line for one of Coach Mike Reilly's Brown Indian elevens.

The Central Catholic athletic mentor prepped for college at Jamestown, N. Y. High School, where he received his football fundamentals from Denton J. Moon, former JHS grid coach. Short and compact in build, Jim was nicknamed "Little Foti by his schoolmates to distinguish him from his brother, George, known as "Big Foti." The brothers were members of the same JHS football team.

Foti's coaching regime at Catholic Central has been brilliant but this is the first time any of his teams have hit the triple crown jackpot.

The additional financial assistance of the community is critical to the success of the Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame.
