GENEVA, Ohio — The swim season for the Allegheny Mountain YMCA Master Swim Association (AMYMSA) league ended the first weekend in April. One hundred and six swimmers representing 18 teams from four states attended the event at SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

Three members of the Jamestown team attended the championship meet, each swimming seven events over two days.

In the Women’s Small Division, Judy Young and Karen Williams took second place. Young has been a member of the AMYMSA since 1987, the year the Jamestown Y team was founded. Karen joined the team in 2010 and Kris Meekins, who competed in the Men’s Small Division, joined in 2016.

Competing in the 90-94 age group, Young competed at the YMCA Masters National Swimming Championships three years ago, swimming in eight events.

In addition to taking home eight gold medals, Judy set national YMCA Masters records in her age group in the 200 and 500 freestyles and the 100 backstroke.

The AMYMSA sponsors about 12 regular meets per year. The regular season starts in September and runs through March.

Master swimmers include beginners to former All-American swimmers, and the league welcomes swimmers of all skill levels. Team members must be at least 18 years old and be able to swim at least 25 yards.
