Kirsten attended Duke University graduating in 1997 with a degree in mathematics. While at Duke she served four years as student manager with the men’s basketball team. Coach Mike Krzyzewski named her as a head manager in her senior year. While at Duke, Green worked closely with assistant coach Tommy Amaker. When Amaker left Duke in 1997 to accept the head coaching job at Seton Hall University, he asked Green to go with him to become the Director of Basketball Operations at the South Orange, New Jersey university.
After four years at Seton Hall in the Big East Conference, Amaker accepted the head coaching position at the University of Michigan in 2001. He immediately hired Green to be his Director of Basketball Operations at the Big Ten university in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
In 2007, Amaker left Michigan to take over the men’s basketball team at Harvard University. Once again, his first hire was Kirsten Green. She became the Director of Basketball Operations for the Cambridge, Massachusetts, Ivy League school.
While working in the basketball program at Harvard, Green completed a Masters Degree in Management at Harvard’s Extension School in 2015. Armed with her new degree, Kirsten left the basketball program to become an Assistant Director of Athletics at Harvard. Green worked with the director of athletics and the athletics administration in a broad role, with responsibility in the areas of internal communication, organization, alumni relations, and program management among others.
In 2023, Green left Harvard after 16 years to serve as the Chief of Staff and Senior Associate Director of Athletics at Brown University. She works closely with the Vice President for Athletics and Recreation in the daily management of the Athletics Division, maintaining strong relationships with coaches, staff, and diverse constituent groups, facilitating the completion of major projects, and liaising with campus leaders on university-wide priorities.
Her boss at Duke, Coach K, had this to say about Green: “In all the years that I have known Kirsten, my dealings with her have been enjoyable, efficient and most importantly, productive. She is an impressive woman, whether as a professional, as a member of a team, or in the community. Her ability to thrive in so many different settings and at so many places, I believe, is a testament to her considerable work ethic and drive to be the very best. These were traits I saw first-hand when she was at Duke as a student manager and have served her well in her professional career.”
Green resides in Providence, Rhode Island.
