Ronald James Blackmer

Ronald James Blackmer, 79, of Russell, Pa., passed away unexpectedly Monday, Dec. 14, 2020, at Warren General Hospital. Ron was born on March 12, 1941, in Jamestown, N.Y., to the late Marion and Gladys Atkins Blackmer.Ron was a 1959 graduate of Youngsville High School. In earlier years, he was employed by Sylvania. Subsequently, he owned and operated West End Auto Parts with a partner and then alone until his early retirement. Ron had a passion for life, his family, and racing cars. Ron raced at Stateline and Eriez Speedways for many years. He won numerous championships and set many records. He was inducted into the Warren and Chautauqua County Racing Halls of Fame. His pride and joy was his “Little Car,” 4 Jr.

Ron, with his zest for life, flew an Ultralight, owned a Cessna 182 and was an accomplished private pilot. He was also a certified scuba diver and an avid sky diver. He was a member of the American Legion, the Moose, the Eagles and the Elks clubs. He lived life to the fullest.

He is survived by his wife, Vicki J. Brunecz Blackmer, whom he married in 1986; two daughters: Cindy (Denny) Furlow of Ashville, N.Y., and Lisa Teboe of Jamestown, N.Y.; a son-in-law, Bret Teboe; stepbrother, Barry (Marie) Crist of Pittsfield; seven grandchildren: Casey McGaffick, Marcey (Phil) Larson, Stacy (Freddie) Ibrahim, Brandon, Jackson, Chase, and Hunter Teboe, along with six great–grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Jody Jan Blackmer in 1997; his brother, Norman Blackmer; stepmother, Avis Blackmer; stepbrother, Bruce Crist; and sister-in-law, Judy Hottel.

A Celebration of Life will be announced and held at a later date.

The family suggests memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
