Browns Do Not Tender JHS Graduate Carlson A Contract
The Cleveland Browns have opted to not tender tight end Stephen Carlson, but the Jamestown native could still sign back with the team, according to Jake Trotter.
Trotter, who covers the Browns for ESPN, posted the news on Twitter on Wednesday afternoon, citing a source.
Carlson, a 2015 Jamestown High School graduate and the 2014 Post-Journal Player of the Year, suffered a knee injury during a preseason game last summer and didn’t play in the regular season. Known for his blocking skills and special-teams skills, he has six catches in 27 career games, including a touchdown against Pittsburgh in 2019.
The 6-foot-4, 240-pounder was a two-time all-state selection with the Red Raiders; was an All-Ivy League choice his junior and senior seasons at Princeton University; and was signed by Cleveland as an undrafted free agent in April 2019.
