Fortunate is the person who can turn one’s love of sport into a professional career once his playing days are over. Jamestown’s David Hinson, a member of the Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame’s Class of 2023, has done just that.

Hinson was born in 1976 and is a 1995 graduate of Jamestown High School. He played football for fellow CSHOF inductee Wally Huckno (Class of 2001) on the 1994 New York State Class A championship winning Red Raiders. The previous year the JHS team narrowly lost in the state’s title game.

In 1994, David set the then single season rushing mark at JHS with 2,260 yards on 290 carries. His 35 touchdowns tied a New York State record.

He was named the NYS Class A Co-Player of the Year as well as First Team All-State. He was Western New York’s Connolly Cup winner as well the Post-Journal’s Player of the Year.
