Karl J. Englert, Jr. was born on January 5, 1935 to Karl and Josephine Englert. Our loving husband and father passed away peacefully on October 30, 2013 after a battle with dementia and kidney infection. He is greatly missed.Karl was born and raised in Buffalo, NY where he attended St. Matthew's Grade School and Bishop Timon High School. He went on to college at The University of Buffalo where he was a proud member of the basketball and golf teams. After graduating, he attended UB Dental School.

Karl met Marlene (Haeick) while attending UB and married in 1960. After receiving his DDS, Karl joined the navy for two years and was stationed in Paris Island, SC where their first son was born. They then moved to Lakewood, NY where they made their home and Karl practiced dentistry for 40 years. Karl loved his dental patients, golfing partners, and countless friends.

In 2000, Karl and Marlene retired to Pensacola Beach, Florida where they had always loved vacationing. He enjoyed golfing, collecting shells while on long beach walks, running, and being with family and friends.

Karl was a lifelong Catholic and daily communicant throughout much of his life. He was a proud member of St Ann's Catholic Church in Gulf Breeze, Florida. His faith was of utmost importance to him. Karl cherished his family. He was very proud of his children and loved going to their swim practices and meets while they were growing up.

Karl lived life to the fullest. His favorite memories include many years of being "doc" and playing three on three basketball at the Jamestown YMCA. As a golfer he worked to continuously improve his game. He won numerous championships at Orchard Park CC, Maplehurst CC, and Moonbrook CC. He won the Buffalo District Golf Association individual and father and son championships. He qualified for the US Amateur and Senior Opens.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Katherine Pearson, and infant son. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marlene, and 4 children, Karl J. Englert III and his wife Kathy, Michael P. Englert and his wife Natalie, Kyle K. Herr and her husband Paul, and Maribeth M. Englert and her husband Andy Erickson and grandchildren Emily and Daniel Herr, Meg Englert, and Michael and Onnolee Englert Erickson.

Karl will be remembered as an incredibly devoted family man who often led by example. He was always willing to share his beliefs, thoughts, and life with whomever he could. He strived for integrity throughout every aspect of his life and impressed the importance of that integrity on his family. We love him and miss him dearly.
