HEARY SELECTED FOR OLYMPIC FESTIVAL TEAM

Navy sophomore guard Michael Heary (Fredonia, NY) has been selected to the 1995 Men’s U.S. Olympic Festival Team by USA Basketball and the United States Olympic Committee.

The Olympic Festival is being held July 21-30 in Denver, CO, with the men’s and women’s basketball competition slated for July 26-29 at McNichols Sports Arena. To be eligible for men’s basketball competition at the Olympic Festival, an athlete must be a U.S. citizen who has completed his high school eligibility but not yet entered his sophomore year of eligibility.

Heary, who set a naval academy freshman scoring record last year with a team-high 382 points and was named to the Patriot League All-Rookie team, will play on the East squad and will be coached by John Calipari of the University of Massachusetts. Some of the notable players on Heary’s squad include Maceo Boston (Michigan), Zendon Hamilton (St. John’s), Johnny Miller (Temple), Kevin Norris (Miami, FL) and Tarik Turner (St. John’s).

Other top players at the festival include: Prince Fowler (Oklahoma), Kendrick Moore (Missouri), and Billy Thomas (Kansas) for the North team; Antoine Walker (Kentucky) Curtis Staples (Virginia) and Ishua Benjamin (North Carolinas State) for the South; and Toby Bailey (UCLA) J.R. Henderson (UCLA) and Neil Reed (Indiana) for the West.
