Sirianni Bound For West Coast

A Jamestown native and Southwestern Central School graduate will be continuing his NFL coaching career in San Diego.

Nick Sirianni (SWCS  Class of 1999) has been hired as the Chargers’ quality control coach, according to a report Monday in the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Sirianni, who previously served as an assistant coach for four years with the Kansas City Chiefs, including last season as their wide receivers coach, will join 11 newcomers on head coach Mike McCoy’s staff.

Before joining the Chiefs, Sirianni was an assistant at his alma mater, Division III national power Mount Union, and later at Division II Indiana University-Pennsylvania. He joined the Chiefs’ staff in 2009, having been hired by former coach Todd Haley. Haley was fired before the end of the 2011 season and was replaced by Romeo Crennel. Crennel was fired after the 2012 season.

That meant that Sirianni would be looking for work, too. Sirianni, the son of Fran and Amy Sirianni, had to wait about a month.

Of course, coaching football is a tradition in the Sirianni family. Fran coached at SWCS from the mid-1970s to the early 1980s; while older brothers Mike and Jay have had tremendous careers coaching at Washington & Jefferson College and SWCS respectively.
